DAILY LIFE

It's been almost two weeks since I posted.
I could tell you nothing has happened,
but that would be a lie.
Much has happened, just nothing BIG.

We continue to watch our garden grow.

The butterflies are out in force.
Now that the butterfly weed is growing
back in our side fields, we see
more and more of them everyday.

We wait with anticipation, on our
cantaloupe vines.

The zinnia seeds I planted in the Spring
have erupted and not only are we enjoying them

 so are the goldfinch.

My little patio niche!
I'm just loving it.
Coffee in the morning and
wine in the evening.
"Nancy Time"

Dad still remains obstinate to taking it slow
and playing it safe.

He throws caution to the wind,
he's gonna do what he's gonna do.

Lastly, we've got new wheels!
Doc gave Mom a prescription for a
new wheel chair.
Now we can go out and about
"in style".

MISS DELORIS

We went for a check up today,
all is good.
Most people don't like to go to the doctors,
but for Mom it is always a treat.
Mary, Doctor Edward's nurse and the
lab gals always make such a fuss over her.
Miss Deloris they call her
and she eats it up.
They ooh and ah and tell her how pretty she looks.
What a sweet staff.

CORN

Our kind neighbor, Buddy Stout, brought us
a bag of fresh corn today.

Mom and I went to work shucking it right away.
It was a great activity for her.
She reminisced about
"back in the day"
when she and her sisters and Mom
would shuck their corn.
She remembered who liked the task and who didn't,
how they would sit around in a circle,
a couple of the girls would have needles in their mouths
for the fine work with the silk.

She also told me that her Mom would
light a match to burn off the excess silk.
Honestly I don't know if any of it is true,
I Googled shucking corn to see if those were old time
truths, but I couldn't find anything.

It doesn't really matter if it happened that way or not.
In her mind it did, and that's good enough for me.

KITCHEN FUN

Yesterday Mom and I decided to have a little fun in the kitchen.
We made a chocolate pudding pie.

We kept it super simple,
ready to bake pie crust,
Jello pudding,
Cool Whip.

I rolled out and baked the crust,
Mom was in charge of stirring the pudding.
(she did a great job, I must say).
It turned out great, and better than that,
we had fun doing it.

Everyone seemed to enjoy our efforts.

SO OVER SQUASH...almost

I am so over squash...almost.
This morning I baked two loafs of
zucchini bread
and if it wasn't so darn good,
I would be totally over squash.

I have squash in the crisper
just waiting for something to happen.

I have a half eaten yellow squash casserole
in the refrigerator
left over from last night.

There are bags and bags of frozen squash
in the freezer.
Chopped and shredded.

Not to mention what is still on the vines
and soon to be on the vines.

So far I've made a fabulous zucchini cake,
endless squash casseroles,
zucchini pie, zucchini fritters.
I've stir-fried, baked, and grilled it.

WHEN DOES THE MADNESS END?
